Mr. Shyam Kumar Rai (Bimal), born in Udayapur, Rautamai Rural Municipality-5, Phoksintar, Eastern Nepal, is a professional development practitioner, trainer, educator, researcher, and entrepreneur with over a decade of experience in designing, managing, and evaluating impactful community-based development projects and enterprises. He surrendered his life to Christ at the age of 12. Since 2011, he has worked extensively on development projects, particularly in education, early childhood development, and child protection, through both national and international organizations (NGOs/INGOs). Currently pursuing an MPhil-PhD in Rural Development at Tribhuvan University, he holds advanced academic qualifications in a Master's Degree in International Cooperation and Development (MICD) from the Central Campus of Humanities and Social Sciences/Mid-West University, Surkhet, as well as a Master of Arts in Rural Development (MARD) from Bhaktapur Multiple Campus/Tribhuvan University.
Mr. Rai has demonstrated strong expertise in development project planning, needs assessment, proposal development, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation, research, and reporting. His professional journey includes leadership roles such as Nepal Coordinator at My Book Buddy Foundation/the Netherlands (present), and in the past, sponsorship correspondence specialist at World Vision International, Program Director at Educational Horizons Nepal, and Field Coordinator at CarNetNepal, Program Director at Children of Promise, where he successfully implemented education and child-focused programs and projects in collaboration with international and national development partners.
In addition to his development work, he is an experienced trainer and educator, having facilitated numerous trainings for teachers, students, parents, and development practitioners. He has also contributed to policy formulation, research publications, and institutional capacity building, particularly of NGOs. He further contributed as a teacher at Kistland Secondary School and as a lecturer at LSA, Lalitpur, and CNAS, Kathmandu.
Known for his integrity, adaptability, and commitment to excellence, Mr. Rai continues to contribute to social transformation by promoting quality education, skill-based training, entrepreneurship, and good governance.
